If on any occasion you have interested in the history of computing, processors… sure you know during the first half of the last century, practically all the electronic systems as calculators, computers, televisions… made use of a fundamental component as vacuum tube, at least until it appeared the first transistors, systems that practically offered the same behavior but stood out for being small and efficient.
After many years later and squeezing the limits of physics in each new iteration, there are many manufacturers who warn that to certain climbing Silicon starts to behave strangely to become more elastic and even being able to let light in and even leaves to escape some electrons. Because of this many are teams looking for a new electronic revolution to overcome the barriers that today we have before us and at Caltech, University of California, say that the answer may be returning to the beginning, i.e., to vacuum tubes.
Now, let alone must think in real “behemoths” big as a House and with a minimum capacity of data processing. It is proposed from Caltech to review the concept and, based on it, bet on the creation of new nanotuvos vacuum which, now and thanks to today’s technology, they could offer a real and future alternative to transistors thanks to which the can be manufactured with different materials, one would lead to an even more efficient product to current silicon chips.
One of the authors of this project is nothing less than the prestigious doctor Axel Sherer, director of the Caltech Nanofabrication group, a number of researchers and engineers who would have managed to develop and build a series of tiny vacuum tubes whose size would be a millionth of the of a vacuum had conventional of what they were a century ago.
