The right to free number portability, the Act of change of operator without losing your phone number, is one of the greatest achievements presumed by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) in Mexico.
However this movement also has become a delicate factor of constant change for the phone companies in the country, where Telefónica Movistar would have been the most damaged during the first months of this 2017.
According to the latest report published by IFT number portability, Movistar lost a total of 1.602.322 subscribers during the first quarter of this year during that period.
In contrast, the own operator, during the same period, managed to add a total of 895.829 new customers, which in the final balance gives as a result a total of 706.493 users less, being the most affected.
It calls attention for example the case of AT & T, which lost only 264.810 customers during the first quarter of 2017, a figure short compared with 966.557 new subscribers who got.
Even so, Telcel was again the most benefited by number portability, losing 1. 517.346 mobile lines and generating 2.551.076 new.
Movistar goes through difficult times in Mexico, after trimming of 23% of its working team, and the picture does not look to improve.
