The theft of smartphones is a phenomenon unfortunate but common. Once a terminal has been hurtado not there is much that is can make to the respect, but the people of Apple has thought in an aggressive method to track e identify to any thief of an iPhone, using the own device as the weapon main in favor of the victim.
According to the patent called “biometric capture for unauthorized user identification”, any iPhone could trigger a biometric identification system when an unauthorized user or thief has complete possession of the device, altering in the background settings of the unit using the fingerprint reader and technology TouchId as a means to record the fingerprints of the thief.
The patent document describes an elaborate process, where the owner of the device could have registered a basis of authorised users, with their fingerprints registered in the system.
Even could activate of way remote this function where the iPhone will collect different information during your period stolen, as geolocation, footprints, numbers marked, history gives navigation, photographs taken and others data to share them with the owner of the terminal.
The intent of this system is give with the identity of the thief, but to activate it would be necessary violate the part them principles of encryption and privacy of the iPhone.
Even so, likely, that the system described in this patent is never implemented.
