Chile and Brazil, which have granted more spectrum to mobile operators

In accordance with the more recent index quarterly of 5 G Americas, Brazil and Chile are the two countries that greater spectrum radio in bands lower to 3 GHz have granted to those operators mobile.

The index of 5 G Americas seeks to show the progress in the region in terms of availability of spectrum radio. Of the amount of MHz suggested by the Union International of telecommunications (ITU), Brazil has granted 609 MHz, a 35.4% of the total suggested. Followed by Chile with 465 MHz and Costa Rica with 460 MHz.

The count shows that the majority of Latin American countries is under the regional average of 339 MHz. The most affected area is Central America where the low allocation of spectrum, reflects the latest regional place in the deployment and adoption of LTE.

While the numbers are low, many countries in the region including Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay and Venezuela, have announced their intention to award spectrum in a maximum period of 18 months, aiming to push mobile broadband in this region.
