Speed of Internet in Chile would correspond to one third of the advertised

If ever we feel that our Internet speed did not correspond to what we had actually contracted, it is because it really is. This conclusion became the Sub-Secretary of telecommunications of Chile in its telecommunication Sector Balance of April 2017 study, where detected rather large differences between these values.

On average, the national fixed connections is 8.6 Mbps, contrary to the 24.7 Mbps that advertised the suppliers, phenomenon that recurs in mobile operators, with differences of 5.9 against 7.7 Mbps currently offered.

The irony of this is that despite the low values that we currently have in Chile, the country is in the top five positions in the ranking of Latin American telephone, connections and the first in the region on the fixed Internet, something that certainly is a great achievement, but also showing us how precarious that are nets in this part of the world.

Another example of the progress that Chile has had on the territory of telecommunications, is that last year they increased access to fixed and mobile internet in 3 G and 4 G technologies, meaning a growth of 23.9% (or 3.1 million new connections). In the same way, the 4G network registered an increase of 162% over the last 12 months, with 6.3 million active points, representing 47.6% of mobile access to Internet.

The full study is available on the web site of Subtel, where we can also find the total breakdown of the above mentioned data.
